The purpose of this study is to document existing roadway characteristics and operations, land use and socioeconomic conditions, and other existing transportation modes, and to craft a long-range transportation plan to meet the transportation needs of the Town of Superior. A travel demand model was prepared to forecast traffic volumes to assist in identifying the traffic impacts with the anticipated growth in and around the City.

The Town of Sahuarita General Plan was adopted in November 1996 to guide development within the town and its sphere of influence. The circulation element contained in the General Plan identifies specific objectives for consideration in the planning and development process.

The purpose of the Meridian Road Corridor Study is to document conditions along the existing roadway and to develop alternatives that will increase the safety and future level of service of Meridian Road. This study will also establish a roadway footprint and develop the ultimate right‐of‐way requirement for the corridor. Finally, the study will be utilized as a guide for local agencies and future development along the corridor. The study area for the Meridian Road Corridor Study is approximately 13 miles in length.

In October 2009, the San Carlos Apache Tribe completed an update to their Long-Range Transportation Plan. One of the recommendations from the LRTP was for the Tribe to conduct an extensive transit feasibility study to evaluate the existing services and identify improvement opportunities. The San Carlos Apache Transit Services applied for, and received Planning Assistance for Rural Areas program funding from the Arizona Department of Transportation Multimodal Planning Division to conduct the Transit Feasibility Study. The study consists of two separate phases: The first phase focuses on the feasibility of expanding and enhancing the San Carlos Apache Transit Services operation, and the second phase is the development of a five-year plan for implementing the recommended enhancements and service expansion. This is the Final Report for the first phase of the study.
