    • Buddhism has been practiced among the Khmers for approximately one and a half millennia, but the dominant form of the religion in Cambodia today is Theravada Buddhism. In the 1970s the religion came close to total extinction under the Khmer Rouge regime, but it has slowly reemerged and become prosperous again as the official state religion.
