DescriptionThis is an anonymous late Taishō or early Shōwa-era copy of a print from Utagawa Hiroshige's series, Famous Places of the Eastern Capital 東都名所 (c. 1845). The copyist has removed or smoothed out many details to bring the print in line with the contemporary shin hanga aesthetic.

Description

This print is the first in the Tsutaya Kichizō edition of the 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō Road and depicts Nihonbashi Bridge in Edo, which the traveler would cross on the way to the first station at Shinagawa.

DescriptionThis print is number 46 of the Gyōsho edition of Hiroshige’s 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō Road. It depicts the post house at Shōno (in present-day Mie prefecture), where travelers are changing horses mid-journey along the Tōkaidō Road.
