On March 2, 1999, the Board of Supervisors of Pima County, Arizona adopted the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan. This Plan is the largest and most comprehensive regional multi-species conservation plan in the United States. These memorandums of understanding record the agreements made with cooperating agencies.

The study provides an overview of the history and ecology of desert ironwood, and a discussion of the binational research effort undertaken to produce the report.
Provides a brief discussion of the need for the federal government to afford special protection for the Ironwood forest found in the Ragged Top and Silverbell Mountains. A proposed Ironwood Preserve would conserve one of the most valuable stands of the ancient Ironwood forest within the Sonoran Desert ecoregion.
