Recommends where riparian land acquisitions would be most effective in serving as mitigation that would cover all priority vulnerable species identified in the SDCP. Priority is given to reaches of watercourses.
Provides background information on improved mapping techniques that have led to a proposal to update the Watercourse and Riparian Habitat Protection and Mitigation Requirements Ordinance adopted in 1994. New riparian classification maps will be forwarded to the Board to consider for adoption during 2003.
Enhances the discussions of the feasibility of restoring flow paths at Aqua Caliente to a more natural state by providing information which allows us to better understand the wetland system that existed before periods of intervention.
Survey results for wetland plant communities of the Agua Caliente Park and nearby La Cebadilla property. The study also documented the presence or absence of Huachuca water umbel, a plant listed as endangered in Pima County. By studying the wetland plants of the La Cebadilla property, and through historic herbarium collections, the biologist found that several plants still present at La Cebadilla were known to be present at the Agua Caliente Ranch at the turn of the century.
Priority cultural resources are places of such importance to the history and culture of Pima County that their protection is warranted in the public interest. Out of more than 3,500 known archaeological sites and 4,000 historic buildings, 229 priority cultural resources were identified.
Describes how information was collected for use in preparing the cultural and historical resources element. The SDCP is a regional planning effort that is designed to balance future growth in Pima County with environmental protection. Pima County compiled and analyzed information on three basic resource types known to occur within the County's jurisdiction: archaeological sites, historical resources, and traditional cultural places.
