Intended to provide a source of information and design assistance to support walking as an alternative transportation mode. This report is also intended to make the places we walk safer, more comfortable, and more desirable as destinations.
Land Use and Traffic Congestion is an investigation into the links among land use, travel behavior, and traffic congestion. Researchers focused on four transportation corridors in the Phoenix area: three older neighborhoods with relatively mixed, higher density land use, and one suburban area with lower density but high traffic volumes. The analysis suggested that the higher density corridors exhibited less congestion due to the greater mix of uses, shorter trip lengths, more travel by transit and non-motorized modes, and the presence of a secondary street grid system.
This Light Rail Transit corridor market analysis was done to identify and evaluate market-based development opportunities around planned light rail transit stations in the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. This report presents the findings and recommendations for each of the 12 highest-rated opportunity sites along the LRT corridor. This coloring book was designed at the Phoenix Center for the Arts by a couple of our artists as a tool for students to learn about air pollution and to take preventative actions and become good environmental stewards. It is something fun for children to do while at the same time providing a good story that’s instructive about protecting human health and the environment.
The 2009 Comprehensive Floodplain Management Plan and Program is intended to be used as a general guide for future decision-making in District activities. The Plan identifies historic flooding events, reviews the District's efforts to solve flooding problems, and formulates five-year plans to reduce flooding through flood control project construction, floodplain identification, and planning programs throughout the county.

The purpose of the Maricopa County Smoke-Free Parks Policy Assessment is three-fold: 1) to evaluate the extent and health impact of tobacco usage in public parks; 2) analyze smoke-free parks policies that have been proposed in cities, counties, and states nationwide; and 3) to assess the feasibility of introducing and implementing similar policies in Arizona, and in Maricopa County in particular.
