Suggests discrepancies between pollen cross-dating and ceramic cross-dates with tree rings may be the expected consequence of difference between the time pollen is deposited in a sample and the duration of the use-lifes of ceramic styles associated with the sample. Report on a classroom pollen study using samples from a site and artificial terraces near Zuni Pueblo. Correspondence with the Colorado Plateau Pollen Chronology allows dating of site-context deposits. Some unusual patterns in the distribution of economic pollen types for an Anasazi site, including occurrence of "Gossypium."

Description
Major study intended as the draft of a chapter in a report on the archaeological mitigation program for a populous Hohokam village in the Salt River Valley, Arizona. Though the study generated an unusually large body of well controlled archaeological-context palynological data, it did not result in the discovery of new information about Hohokam prehistory. Assessments of this failure, however, led to significant methodological lessons for archaeological pollen studies.
