The Maricopa County Department of Public Health and the Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center at Arizona State University initiated an evaluation of ASU’s Tobacco-Free Campus policy, which went into effect on August 1, 2013. The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the impacts of this policy on the ASU community and environment. This report summarizes tobacco consumption patterns, norms and perceptions surrounding tobacco use, tobacco litter on campus, and overall benefits of a tobacco-free campus both before and after policy implementation.
In 2006, the Smoke-Free Arizona Act outlawed smoking within most enclosed public spaces and places of employment primarily to reduce the exposure of individuals to harmful secondhand smoke. The purpose of the Maricopa County Smoke-Free Parks Policy Assessment is three-fold: 1) to evaluate the extent and health impact of tobacco usage in public parks; 2) analyze smoke-free parks policies that have been proposed in cities, counties, and states nationwide; and 3) to assess the feasibility of introducing and implementing similar policies in Arizona, and in Maricopa County in particular.
This study identifies the drainage and flooding hazards within the watershed and develops alternatives to address those hazards. It is a comprehensive study that estimates flood and erosion potential, maps watercourses, identifies existing and potential problems and develops preliminary solutions and standards for sound floodplain and stormwater management.
The Sutherland Valley is a broad, geologically-controlled floodplain. This study attempts to quantify the depth and extent of flooding so that floodplain permits can be issued for development which meets local and federal restrictions.
Millstone Manor #6 is a subdivision that was recorded in the mid-1950's. All records indicate no engineering took place with regards to potential for drainage improvements. This report will address what the natural floodprone areas are and will recommend how future permits should be processed.
We still have plenty of opportunities to influence the community form. Plans discussed initially involve biological impacts. Conservation planning from Metro Tucson is changing and it is changing the traditional type of development of subdivision s into commercial/shopping center areas since the end of World War II.
Provides an overview of Pima County's (1) natural, constructed and administrative form makers, (2) the origins and implementation of planning and zoning legislation and regulations, and (3) a decade-by-decade review of some of the major land use decisions made within Pima County since the 1920s.
