This report presents the results of both a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the drainage problems associated with the South Branch, Upper Carmack watershed. Also included is an economic assessment of the damage potential associated with three distinct storm events.
The Sutherland Valley is a broad, geologically-controlled floodplain. This study attempts to quantify the depth and extent of flooding so that floodplain permits can be issued for development which meets local and federal restrictions.
Reviews the planning efforts and analyzes the existing background reports, master plans, and management plans of parks and preserves owned by Pima County. A comparison of the planning documents, natural and cultural resources, threats and stressors, inventories, monitoring and research activities is presented.
If one species had to be chosen to preserve and restore, perhaps it should be cottonwood. Cottonwood-willow forests, where they exist and are healthy, indicated the presence of a viable riparian area, which is in turn the key to conserving great proportions of our native species. A reflection of the dire status of our riparian systems is that the Sonoran cottonwood-willow and Sonoran mesquite-cottonwood forests.
