This study from the citizens of the Arivaca community proposes to establish an Arivaca Resource Management Zone, where a atwo level management plan integrates the otherwise fragmented land use and water policies of the various regulatory agencies. The Arivaca watershed contains one of the last remaining cienegas and perennial streams in southern Arizona. These unusual water features exist because the area is still in a state of balance, where annual water consumption is less than the natural recharge replenishing the aquifer during years of average precipitation.

Identifies key potential threats and stressors to vulnerable species in Pima County, and to the biological and hydrological resources that support these species. Emphasis has been placed on identifying the specific components of past, existing, and proposed land and water uses that pose the greatest potential threats over the next 30 years to focal species and special habitats, plant associations, and communities.

Water quality is an important issue in the alternatives analysis of the SDCP and as a component of the Environmental Planning Element of the Comprehensive Plan that requires analysis, policies and strategies to address anticipated effects of plan elements on air quality, water quality and natural resources associated with proposed development under the Plan.

Report is a review and compilation of existing data on water quality requirements of eight aquatic species. By identifying the water quality requirements of priority vulnerable species of concern, and assessing the quality of water that serves or might serve as potential habitat, we begin to understand which sources will support priority aquatic species identified by the SDCP.

It provides background on technical and water policy matters, describes potential and existing impacts to watercourses within Pima County, suggests options for reducing stressors, and outlines a number of issues for discussion withing each watershed planning unit.
