An assessment for fiscal year (FY) 2016 of the contribution of Arizona State University (ASU) to the Arizona economy, based on the economic impact of its employment and spending, its benefits as a provider of higher education, and its research.
The initial $1.4 billion construction investment results in an immediate addition of $828 million to GSP and $700 million in labor income after controlling for resource and material acquisition from out-of-state sources. The in-state activity induces additional GSP generation of $1.1 billion and $711 million in labor income as the direct effects ripple through the Arizona economy.
This study examines the economic impact of the Central Arizona Project (CAP) to the State of Arizona in two aspects: the construction of CAP, 1973‐1993; and the impact of CAP's water supply delivery operations, 1986‐2010. A modified IMPLAN input‐output model for the State of Arizona is used to implement both analyses. The economic impacts for each analysis are assessed in terms of gross state product (GSP) and employment.
