Pima County's Cienega Creek Natural Preserve surface water and groundwater monitoring project. This report summaries PAG's groundwater and surface water monitoring between July and June each fiscal/ monitoring year. The report contains monitoring methodology, comprehensive maps, and graphs of trends for surface flow volume, wet-dry flow lengths, groundwater levels and water chemistry. It also contains information on drought, erosion and repeat photography.

The Arizona Board of Regents annually prepares an analysis of the financial condition of Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and The University of Arizona using data from the universities’ audited financial statements. This Assessment of Financial Strength uses the methodology developed by KPMG, BearingPoint, et al. and used by university governing boards and accreditation agencies across the country. The methodology employs four financial ratios and a single indicator of financial health—the Composite Financial Index—and provides a scale against which to benchmark our universities. The analysis is for each university’s entire enterprise, which includes their component units.

The purpose of this report is to present the data gathered to date in the Santa Cruz AMA in support of the management goal and groundwater modeling effort. This report presents groundwater and surface water monitoring data, USGS stream gaging data, effluent data, gravity studies, historical water use and water quality data for three distinctive stream reaches of the Santa Cruz River.

Growth in the stock of knowledge has been the most important factor behind the dramatic rise in living standards in the United States and other countries over the past 100 years. Systematic efforts made by firms, universities, governments, and other organizations to increase the stock of knowledge are referred to as research and development (R&D). The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the entire system of R&D in the United States—or as it is sometimes called, the national innovation system. Special emphasis will be placed on basic research. This is the component of R&D that is most likely to be underprovided by the private sector and the one that figures most prominently in public policy toward science and technology. The report also emphasizes the role of universities that, in the United States, perform the lion’s share of basic research.

The report provides a variety of basic statistical indicators of R&D effort and identifies recent trends in sources of R&D funding. The report also reviews classic arguments on the appropriate role of government in supporting R&D and the strengths and weaknesses of universities as performers of R&D. The U.S. national innovation system is compared with those in other major industrialized countries.

This paper provides a review of studies that examine the extent to which university research promotes local economic growth and development. The primary focus of the paper is on economic impacts that derive from the innovative outputs of faculty. this paper evaluates Arizona State University and the Phoenix metropolitan area in terms of factors that enhance the local economic impact of university research. The potential for local impacts from ASU’s research and graduate programs is greatly aided by the fact that ASU is located in a major metropolitan area with a climate and other natural amenities that mobile professional workers find attractive.

This document and the Geographic Information System file that is now a part of the County library of over 1000 coverages, gives the scientific community access to mapping that better differentiates perennial, ephemeral and intermittent watercourses, and provides more comprehensive coverage of shallow groundwater sources. This data is significant because riparian habitat is one of the most important and least protected of the habitat types in Pima County.

The purpose of this project was to compile information on groundwater withdrawals and surface water diversions near perennial streams, intermittent streams, and shallow groundwater areas previously identified by PAG for the SDCP. The information could be used to prioritize future investigations of potential impacts of these withdrawals and diversions on riparian and aquatic habitats for the SDCP.

This report summarizes published reports and public datasets pertaining to the subsurface hydrology of Sopori Basin. It includes descriptions of the hydrogeology of the basin, recharge, the number and type of wells, well installation frequency, changes in water levels through time, shallow groundwater areas, groundwater pumping, grandfathered irrigation rights and water quality. Data sources and limitations also are discussed. This report is intended to provide a broad understanding of the groundwater conditions in Sopori Basin based on existing information.

Pima Association of Governments updated a portion of the Water Usage Along Selected Streams in Pima County, Arizona, which PAG created in 2000. The updated report and datasets show current potential water usage in these critical areas. Deliverables include the shapefiles, spreadsheets and maps that accompany this memorandum. The purpose of this report is to provide updated information about the location and pumping history of wells located in Pima County near shallow groundwater areas, generally located near drainages.
