The wild land/urban interface is a concern in Coconino County because of the potential for wild land fuels to ignite combustible structures and vice-versa. Destroying homes, property, and trees is just one way that wildfire harms an area. Wildfires can destroy habitat, soils, and forest health, disrupting economic stability, transportation corridors, recreation opportunities, water supplies, and scenery, as well as undermining a community’s emotional and spiritual well-being. Reducing the threat of catastrophic wildfire is a priority in the wild land/urban interface. This plan outlines actions needed to prepare and equip the greater Flagstaff community to live and thrive within our fire-adapted ponderosa pine forests.

This report presents the results of both a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the drainage problems associated with the South Branch, Upper Carmack watershed. Also included is an economic assessment of the damage potential associated with three distinct storm events.
Arizona State Parks must prepare a Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan every five years. This report is for 2003 through 2008. The primary purpose of this plan is to establish priorities for acquiring land and developing outdoor recreation facilities in Arizona.
Fort Lowell was a supply base for the United States Army “Apache Campaigns” between 1873 and 1891. Following abandonment of the fort in 1891, settlers moved in and used some fort buildings as residences, or stripped the buildings of useful materials. By the 1930s, much of the fort had fallen into disrepair or had been sold off. Eventually, the City of Tucson acquired a large portion of the old fort which became what is today’s “Fort Lowell Park.” A 5.2 acre (“Adkins”) parcel of the former fort containing several original adobe buildings was still in private ownership, and the 2004 County bond election passed a proposal to acquire the land and preserve the historic resources.
Phase IIA focuses on identifying alternatives for mitigating the hazards and problems, evaluating the alternatives for flood mitigation potential and cost effectiveness, and recommending a preferred alternative and flood control policy.
This plan has focused on two program areas: 1) floodplain management through revised floodplain delineations and assessment of subsequent FEMA mapping revisions; and 2) basin-wide planning issues involving both short- and long-term drainage infrastructure and regulatory needs.
The purpose of this study is to (1) develop a fundamental understanding of the problems that exist, and (2) perform a cursory examination of possible management approaches identifying those that appear most plausible for further consideration.
The study developed the 100-year floodplain limits within the watershed and identified the area between Westover Avenue and Valencia Road as a major flood hazard area affecting most of the properties along the channel.
The purpose of this study, which represents Phase I, is to determine long range planning and land use policies for flood control and floodplain management in the southwest area.
