A fascinating and detailed look at sixteen communities in Pima County that experienced the boom and bust of the mining industry since the 1800s. Conveyed from a cultural historian's perspective, the stories of these communities are told with a goal of promoting preservation of the remnant railroads, schools, post offices, hotels, saloons, and other artifacts from this chapter of our history in Pima County.

This report examines which agencies are responsible for cultural resource management, when they began their programs, how management is conducted, and the challenges that must be met in order to achieve the goal of preserving and protecting cultural resources for future generations.

The SDCP is a regional planning effort that is designed to balance future growth in Pima County with environmental protection. Land use in unincorporated northwest Pima County is analyzed to determine existing commitments and conservation opportunities, and in order to begin to answer the question of whether a general biological goal of conserving 80 percent of the pygmy-owl's habitat can be achieved.

Correspondence received in response to the draft Preliminary Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan during the three month comment period. More than 170 letters that total over 400 pages were contributed by individuals, community groups, business interests, the ranch community, and government agencies. These comments relate to both the draft plan and to the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement.
