This plan outlines a comprehensive approach to reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease through the most efficient, cost-effective, and evidence-based strategies available. This plan supports current efforts in primary prevention and proposes new primary prevention activities that are specific to cardiovascular disease. The majority of the plan addresses secondary prevention efforts and controlling risk factors in those who already have cardiovascular disease.
This document provides a snapshot of the current cardiovascular disease burden in Arizona. It identifies the mortality rates, prevalence rates, hospitalization rates, and estimated costs for cardiovascular disease risk factors and diseases.
The Arizona Department of Transportation, the Arizona Game & Fish Department and the Arizona State Parks Board are required to conduct a study every three years on watercraft fuel consumption and recreational watercraft usage. The fuel consumption data is collected to determine the allocation of motor vehicle fuel tax to the State Lake Improvement Fund. The information on recreational watercraft usage patterns on Arizona’s lakes and rivers is necessary, in part, to determine the distribution of SLIF funds to applicants.
