Description
Soldiers of the 84th (Kwangsi, or Guangxi) Army at Tsaoyang (Caoyang), Hupeh (Hubei) Province, Central China front, carve Chinese characters (words) out of bamboo and put up slogans against the Japanese. They left the bamboo unpainted save for the top edge or a corner here and there, which they touched with a bright red, giving it a beautiful effect.
