The State of the System Report is a compilation of the physical inventory and status of the Maricopa County Department of Transportation’s infrastructure. It addresses roadway congestion, traffic safety, low volume road paving, bridges, and pavement conditions. Also, included are recommendations for future improvements within each of the infrastructure categories. The SOS report has been produced annually since 1998.
The 20-year transportation plan includes roadway, transit, safety, and environmental and economic vitality elements to help meet the region's transportation goals of improving our safety and cross-town mobility, while reducing traffic congestion.
Transportation excise tax money is statutorily restricted to street and highway purposes or transportation projects. Gila County demonstrated that it spent excise tax monies during calendar years 2009 through 2013 to address traffic safety and congestion issues and deteriorating road conditions. Also, in January 2014, the County completed the Gila County Transportation Study, which identified the most critical future transportation infrastructure needs and recommended projects to address those needs. We also determined that the County spent its excise tax monies solely for street and highway purposes or transportation projects as required by Arizona Revised Statutes §28-6392(B), and implemented all but one of our prior audit recommendations.
This study will prepare an updated Tribal Long Range Transportation Plan and a strategic plan for improvements over five-, 10-, and 20-year periods, incorporating both roadway and multimodal needs. Some key focus areas of the Plan are road maintenance and safety programs, as well as improvement plans for bicycle, pedestrian, and transit systems. It also Identifies updates to the Tribal Transportation Inventory and functional classification systems will assist in expanding the level and types of funding available for transportation projects.
The primary purpose of this study was to develop a plan that enables the Town to facilitate safer and more efficient infrastructure for the traveling public and guide the development of the Business District. This study recommends phased improvement projects to address the multimodal transportation needs of the community, while steering community development and project funding. The study findings will also be incorporated into the Town's Capital Improvement Planning process for the next 5-, 10-, and 20-year time frames.
The purpose of the Verde Valley Multimodal Transportation Study is to develop a long-range regional transportation plan to guide the implementation of transportation improvements on the roads of regional significance in the Verde Valley, including I-17, State Routes, and roads on the County Regional Road System. This Study is an update of the 1999 Verde Valley Transportation Study Update.
The Camp Verde Small Area Transportation Study is a joint effort of the Town of Camp Verde and Arizona Department of Transportation. The purpose of this study is to develop a multimodal transportation plan that outlines the Town’s transportation priority projects. The transportation plan will sketch out a path to help the Town achieve its vision and goals for a future transportation system in a manner that is closely aligned with the lifestyle and the values of the community.
The Pinal Creek Trail corridor study is being conducted in conjunction with the Cobre Valley Comprehensive Transportation Study, to provide alternative modes of transportation to key educational and recreational areas in the Globe area. The purpose of the study is to review previous trail studies and recreation trail plans that will address the most critical current and future non-motorized modes of transportation within the study area. The concept of turning Pinal Creek, which runs through the City, into a functioning urban greenbelt, has long been the dream of several citizens of the community.
