Relates that Leonardo Sanchez, a permanent resident of Cuba and a baptized Catholic, married Marcelina Diaz. She was born in Matanzas and they had two daughters, who were both baptized and registered in the book for those of European descent in their parish church. Report concerns whether or not their children, who were of "mixed race," could be considered white, determined by which book their baptisms are recorded in. Churches would use different books for Europeans, whites, and minorities.

This collection of personal documents belonging to Antonio, a Chinese settler, forms his application for permanent residence in Cuba. The documents in this collection include his first contract, baptism certificate, and "reviews" written by his past owners attesting to his good conduct. The second to lat page in this selection certifies that Antonio sought to become a Spanish subject and obey Spanish laws; it is signed by an official who accepted Antonio's request for permanent residence in Cuba. 1863

This is a second labor contract that was shared between Pablo or Juy Leng, a Chinese settler, and Gavino Hernandez, his new owner. The document was written and signed upon the completion of Pablo's first eight year contract with another owner. The term of this labor contract was for two years. Gavino Hernandez wrote on the back of the contract that Pablo seemed to be performing well in his duties. 1863. Signed in Chinese.
