Description
Paper prepared for the 1971 Cahokia Ceramic Conference. This conference resulted in the chronological scheme of phases for American Bottoms and other Mississippian Culture sites that has remained in use to the present time. That scheme was published as Fowler, Melvin L. and R. H. Hall, 1972, Archaeological Phases at Cahokia. Illinois State Museum Research Series Papers in Anthropology No. 1. Springfield. The relationship of the pollen chronology to the ceramic phase sequence was not explored by the authors of that volume.

Description
Study of the pollen of 4 surface and 41 stratigraphic and archaeological-context sediment samples was undertaken to provide independent evidence of the antiquity of sites LA 11828 and LA 11904, and of the hypothesis the two sites had the same cultural functions. The pollen record suggests the two sites differ in antiquity: the occupation horizon samples from LA 11828 correspond to others that date to the Historic Period, while those from LA 11904 correspond to others that date 1800 - 300 B.C. Palynological differences that are probably indices of seasonality of occupation argue for the sites having different cultural functions.

Description
Unpublished report, 1965.
Study of pollen samples from these two Reeve Phase sites was undertaken excluding Cheno-am and Compositae pollen from the pollen sum. Cross-dating suggests a five-horizon pollen sequence; three horizons are evidenced a both sites, the other two are from samples superimosed on the occupation floors of rooms. Dates between A.D. 1375 and 1490 are suggested for the sequence. Also discusses economically significant pollen types and presents cultural ecological interpretations. Published 1973

DescriptionPollen records from 1 surface and 3 archaeological-context samples suggest the two BM II sites are not contemporaneous.
