The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) is the State's Medicaid and KidsCare program offering the following behavioral health services: Title XIX (Medicaid) Acute and Long Term Care, Acute Care, Arizona Long Term Care Services (ALTCS), Federal Emergency Services Program (FESP), and Title XXI (KidsCare).

While this project measured whether members received a minimum of one Hb A1c test annually according to HEDIS criteria, clinical practice guidelines recommend Hb A1c testing at least twice a year for patients who have stable glycemic control and quarterly for patients who are not meeting glycemic goals. To further improve care and health outcomes for members with diabetes, Contractors should continue to focus on ensuring that members with diabetes receive Hb A1c tests and other preventive-care services at the recommended intervals.

This report summarizes the results of the 2006 Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Provider Survey of primary care physicians, specialists, office managers, and dental providers. The purpose of this survey is to determine what AHCCCS providers think about the AHCCCS program in general as well as what they think about the individual health plans with which they contract. Survey responses allow for comparison between AHCCCS-contracted health plans and assessment of the AHCCCS program in general.
