This document is an archival record of ASU’s instructional faculty. Faculty listed are involved in undergraduate and graduate instruction and research for the 2022-2023 academic year. Landscaping planted after January 1, 1987 within publicly owned rights-of-way and irrigated with groundwater may be planted only with plants listed on the ADWR Low Water Use/ Drought Tolerant Plant List for the Tucson AMA. The director may waive this requirement under special circumstances. This list can also be used as a resource for residents and businesses that are interested in conserving water. The list provides a wide array of plants to accomplish a variety of low wateruse landscape designs.

The list was compiled by the Department of Water Resources in cooperation with the Landscape Technical committee of the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, comprised of experts from the Desert Botanical Garden, the Arizona Department of Transportation and various municipal, nursery and landscape specialists. Individuals wishing to add or delete plants from the list may submit information to the Director of the Arizona Department of Water Resources for consideration.

The study had three main goals: (1) to assess the vulnerability of groundwater-dependent agriculture to climate variability, (2) to identify historical and current processes of adaptation to the vagaries of climate in the region— these refer to both system wide adaptations and individual farmer’s adaptations, and, (3) to assess the use of and needs for seasonal climate forecast information in agricultural decision making. The report is targeted at institutional stakeholders (i.e., agricultural extension personnel), physical scientists (particularly climatologists), and policymakers (at the level of NOAA and other federal agencies). Specific recommendations are made to these groups in order to improve the delivery of seasonal forecasts, set research priorities, and inform public policy.
