- This is the first in a series of 12 prints by Utagawa Kunikiyo II, depicting the popular play Chūshingura. In this scene from the first act, various nobles and Lord Moronao, the deputy of the shogun, are gathered to attend a ceremony at the Hachiman Shrine in Kamakura. The villainous Lord Moronao behaves rudely to Lord Wakasa and Lord Enya, and makes an improper advance to Lady Enya in front of her husband. The story, based on the early 18th century 47 ronin incident, takes place during the Muromachi period, and the family crest of the Ashikaga shoguns can be seen decorating the walls of the shrine.
